Section 1 --- Licence Conditions and Station Identification

Operators and supervision

Syllabus

Notes:

The term 'Radio Equipment' (in initial capitals) is a defined licence term meaning the equipment used and identified by the operator's call sign.

If a visiting amateur uses the radio equipment with his own call sign, it is his/her Radio Equipment.

The Nature of the circumstances and identity of the User Services are not examinable.

1B1  Q3 Recall that only the licensee, or another UK licensed amateur operating under his or her supervision, may use the Radio Equipment.

With certain exceptions the Licensee shall ensure that the Radio Equipment shall only be operated by the Licensee personally and by no other persons.

However the Licensee, that is you when you have a licence, may permit the operation of the Radio Equipment by a person who holds a current United Kingdom Amateur Radio Licence provided that any such operation of the Radio Equipment is carried out in the presence of and under the direct supervision of the Licensee, that is you and using your callsign, and that such persons are made aware of the requirement to comply with the terms, conditions and limitations of your Licence.

1B1 Q3 Recall that the call sign of the supervisor is used to identify the station and operation is in accordance with the supervisor’s licence.

If you are not operating a club station but you are being supervised by a Full Licence holder then you operate the station in accordance with the SUPERVISOR'S LICENCE so you can use the station as if you were fully licensed!!

1B1 Q3 continued Recall that in certain circumstances the licensee may allow the equipment to be used by a member of a User Service.

"User Service" given in clause17(1) of your licence means the British Red Cross, St John Ambulance, the St Andrew's Ambulance Association, the Women's Royal Voluntary Service, the Salvation Army, any Government Department, any Category 1 responder, and any Category 2 responder as defined in the Civil Contingencies Act (2004).

NOTE: that the nature of the circumstances and the identity of the users services are not examinable.

1B1 Q3 continued Recall that only a Full Licensee, including a Full licensee operating under a Full (Club) licence, may supervise on air operation by a candidate on a Foundation Training Course.

This means, that when you are a candidate on a Foundation Training Course and before getting your licence, you are allowed to operate a station, BUT you must be supervised only by an amateur who holds a Full licence.
